Shelby Community Center
If you grew up in the Shelby Township area, you may remember this building as Disco Elementary School. The facility is situated on 10 acres at 51670 Van Dyke, one light north of 23 Mile Road, and was purchased from Utica Community Schools in the early 1980’s. It is now home to the Shelby Library, the 41A District Court, the Shelby Cable Department, and the Shelby Township Senior Citizen’s Center.

Community Center

A number of events and classes hosted by the Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department and the Senior Citizen’s Center are held at the Community Center. Outdoor features include a picnic shelter, picnic tables, horseshoe pits, bocce ball courts, shuffleboard courts, 2 soccer fields, ice rink in winter, a new pavilion with restrooms, and a garage/storage for senior busses and equipment.

Lions Club Soccer Park
The 10-acre park was completed in early 1998 with funding and support from the Shelby Township Lions Club. With irrigation, flat land, dense turf, and electronic scoreboards, these “Class A” fields have become favorites for local soccer leagues. The park is located on the east side of Van Dyke, one light north of 23 Mile Road, just north of the Shelby Community Center, behind the shopping center.

For more information regarding the Community Center please phone the Parks, Recreation & Maintenance Department at 586-731-0300. For upcoming events at the Senior Center, please phone 586-739-7540.
